Removing the Cover - Inside - Nose - Left Side - Fuselage/Empennage - Right Side

Inside
Aircraft Papers-------------ARROW Airworthiness, Registration, Operating Handbook, Weight & Balance
Hobbs -----------------------verify Make sure your Hobbs time out is accurate!!!
Fire Extinguisher ----------check Located down by the Pilot's left foot
ELT --------------------------check Should be down and in the "armed" position
Baggage---------------------secure Baggage should be sure, in case you encounter turbulence
Windscreen ----------------check Check for cleanliness and possible damage
Controls ---------------------check Check the rigging of the control surfaces
Ignition Key ---------------OUT

Switches / Breakers ------CHECK All the switches should be off (down), and the circuit breakers should be in (except possibly the turn coordinator for cold starts)
Battery Master Switch ----ON You should hear the turn coordinator spinning up...
Fuel Quantity --------------check The 2 fuel gauges should be working
Wing Flaps -----------------Down Put the flaps down so you will be able to inspect the control rods
External Lights ----------CHECK First 4 light switches from left to right
  - Nav lights, landing lights, and strobe lights
  - Now do a quick walk around to check the lights & stall horn
  - Turn off all external light switches
Internal Lights --------------CHECK    (as required for night flying)
Master Switch --------------OFF Be sure to turn off the battery before you continue your inspection!

  - A - Airworthiness Certificate
  - R - Registration
  - O - Operator's Handbook    - (The white binder in the baggage compartment)
  - W - Weight & Balance       - (The last page of the Operator's Handbook)

Fire Extinguisher
   - Located on the left side by the Pilot's feet

ELT
   - The switch should be in the "armed" position


   - The switch should be down, in the "armed" position

Controls
   - First pull back on the Yoke - verify the stabilator in the rear of the plane is moving properly
   - Then, As you move the yoke to the right with your thumb up...


... the right aileron comes up (your thumb points at the UP aileron)


Now check the left aileron...

You can check the proper rigging of the rudders, after you climb into the plane (before you close the canopy).

Flap indicator will be UP


Push down on the switch to extend the flaps to the full down position

To check your external lights - Switch ON the first from switches from left to right
   - typically we check the cabin lights only if we're going on a night flight
      (they are hard to see in daylight, and therefore easy to leave on - which could drain the battery)
